On 20 October, Taiwan CDC said influenza activity was declining but remained at epidemic levels. It therefore extended broader eligibility for publicly funded antivirals for people with influenza-like symptoms who belong to specified high-transmission groups through 15 November.
The listed groups include students from kindergarten through senior high or vocational school and years 1–3 of five-year junior college, along with kindergarten, childcare-centre and home-based childcare workers. Eligibility does not mean self-directed treatment: a clinician must assess symptoms and decide whether medication is appropriate.
What families and schools can do today
- Seek nearby medical care for influenza-like symptoms and state the child’s school level and when symptoms began.
- Urgent warning signs include shortness of breath, breathing difficulty, cyanosis, chest pain, altered consciousness or low blood pressure.
- Keep children home while ill and return after recovery; reinforce hand hygiene, masks when symptomatic and cough etiquette.
- Use Taiwan CDC’s medicine map or call 1922 to locate a contracted provider.
