Today’s finding
No newly confirmed major child-abuse case was found in primary Taiwan sources today. Rather than repeat unverified case detail, this brief checks whether the systems already being measured can show safety outcomes.
What is officially measured
Evidence level A. Taiwan’s 2026 central assessment of local governments measures the coverage of local review for children in placement, with 100% receiving full credit. It also sets a 94% target for child-protection family-intervention coverage. A separate vulnerable-family measure tracks substantiated re-reports within six months of closure, with a target below 3.5%.
These are administrative targets—not proof that any individual child is safe or that any individual case was handled correctly.
The accountability question
The Judicial Yuan’s 2026 monthly statistics list separate August tables for investigation, trial and execution of juvenile and child-protection matters. The public should be able to ask how long each stage takes and whether court processes connect to safety plans, without exposing children’s identities.
