First appeal hearing: child protection demands outside the High Court
The first appeal hearing in the case charging social worker Chen Shang-jie with negligent homicide in Kaikai's death took place at the Taiwan High Court on September 16. The Child Protection Action Alliance expressed its position outside the court, where some people called for a “severe sentence” and held placards, demanding that child protection responsibilities be taken seriously.
Both Central News Agency captions published that day state that the case was heard at the Taiwan High Court and that the alliance called on people to protest, hold placards and express their demands outside the court. Actions and slogans at the scene are not the court's final determination of responsibility, evidence or sentencing.
