Three questions that cannot be skipped
What can adoption social workers do, and what should not be demanded of them?
Adoption social workers' core work includes assessment, matching, support and service coordination; their role does not wholly replace that of child protection social workers or law enforcement officers. System design should clearly address information across systems, supervisory review and escalation pathways for urgent risks, so that “division of duties” is not misunderstood as permission to withhold the flow of information.
Refocus the system on child safety
Discussion of an individual case should stay within public judgments, hearing records and verifiable material; facts awaiting judicial determination should not be written as settled conclusions. What can actually be tested is whether the system provides clear thresholds so that people who see warning signs know what to do next.
Keep asking:Were risk signals recorded? Did supervisors review them? Did agencies coordinate to protect the child? These questions define the safety net every child needs.
